Semi Dried Chocolate Dipped Blood Oranges

Try these almost guilt free delicious treats, when blood oranges are in season. Perfect for after dinner. Or substitute other fresh fruit and skip the baking part. Good chocolate is a must though.

Preparation time 15 mins, plus cooking.
Serves 8 with coffee or as an after dinner treat.


4 blood oranges
200g grams good quality dark chocolate, we suggest local artisan Zokoko chocolate from Wiffens
Approx 3 tablespoons icing sugar


Cut oranges in half then cut into segments between each main section of pith leaving the centre seeds and pith (you should get approximately 8 pieces per orange. Each segment should contain fresh with no seeds or pith (except for near the peel.
Preheat oven to 100C place a rack with the bars close together over a lined baking dish.
Place oranges on rack skin side down and the sieve over icing sugar . Each piece should get a little icing sugar.
Turn oven down to 50C and bake oranges for Approximately 2 hours until semi dried.
Melt chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of hot water or in the microwave until just melted but not burnt.
Using tongs carefully half or fully dip each piece in chocolate, shaking to remove excess and return to a clean rack to dry.
Allow to set at room temperature.
