Also called Flowering Kale, Kale and Ornamental Cabbage Ornamental kale is a member of the cabbage family. They have coloured cabbage like heads with frilly leaves, on medium sized stalks.

Types

Ornamental kale can be blue, cream, green, purple and white with white or purple centres.

Selection and Storage

Look for heads that are densely packed. Avoid smelly bunches with browning leaves. Cut a minimum of 2cms off the stem and place in cold water.  Ornamental kale can smell so replace water daily.

Availability

February-September.
