Selection and Storage

What type of eating apple to choose should be dictated by personal preference and what is in season.  Choose Apples that are firm with unmarked skin. Apples keep best in the crisper section of the refrigerator.

Most Apples are harvested in Autumn-Winter then kept in Controlled Atmosphere (CA) throughout the rest of the year. Some Apples like Granny Smith and Pink Lady keep better in CA than others and are consistently good throughout the year.

All apples are good for eating depending upon your preference. For cooking Granny Smith are ideal. Rub cut apple skin with lemon juice to prevent discolouration
