Pawpaw and Papaya

Types

Pawpaw and Papaya are different names used in different parts of the world for fruit from the same plant. Two kinds of papayas are commonly grown. One has sweet, red (or orangish) flesh, and the other has yellow flesh; in Australia these are called "red papaya" and "yellow papaw", respectively. Either kind, picked green, is called a "green papaya.

Selection, Storage

Select clean, yellow/orange coloured skin. To ripen – store at room temperature. Once ripe store in a cool area (can be refrigerated for short period) but serve at or near room temperature.

Pawpaw and Papaya are available all year round.

Using

Papaya can be used in chicken and seafood dishes, chutneys and relishes, fruit salads and is delicious combined with passionfruit.
