Pawpaw and Papaya are different names used in different parts of the world for fruit from the same plant. Two kinds of papayas are commonly grown. One has sweet, red (or orangish) flesh, and the other has yellow flesh; in Australia these are called “red papaya†and “yellow papawâ€, respectively. Either kind, picked green, is called a “green papaya. Select clean, yellow/orange coloured skin. To ripen – store at room temperature. Once ripe store in a cool area (can be refrigerated for short period) but serve at or near room temperature. Papaya is available all year round and can be cheapest in winter.
