Choose ginger that is crisp and fresh looking. Store ginger in the refrigerator, ginger can also be stored in the freezer and grated or chopped for use while still frozen.

Availability

Ginger is available all year round and is harvested a number of times a year. New season ginger available in late summer is pale yellow and has a thinner skin. New season ginger has a thinner skin, is crisper and has more moisture. Ginger is also harvested in autumn winter and has a thicker skin and more flavour than new season ginger.

Using

Ginger is used in many different cuisines including; Japanese, Thai, Middle Eastern, Indian and North African. Ginger can be used fresh or in its dried ground variety. Fresh ginger can be grated or chopped and used raw, or sautéed.

Ginger contains a good amount of Vitamin A, C, E and Foliate and is rich in Potassium, Calcium, and Magnesium. Ginger is used in Chinese medicine and is an alternative remedy for colds, indigestion, nausea, arthritis and muscle problems.
